Recycle Bin Icon Xp

As in windows 10 or in any windows operating system recycle bin is the desktop specific icon and in recently updated windows 10 recycle bin is not automatically present on the desktop, so while clicking on Desktop icon settings you will get a new window.

  • In Windows XP, it can be a pain to remove the recycle bin from the desktop and in this guide you’ll learn the easiest and best way. Please Note: This guide involves working with the Windows Registry.
  • If you're using Windows XP, the most elegant way to do this is to add the option Show Recycle Bin icon on the desktop to the Folder Options. Copy the following code into notepad save the file as Recycle.reg and then double-click it.
  • The Recycle Bin does not appear on the desktop in Windows Vista or in Windows XP. Therefore, you cannot use the Recycle Bin to do such tasks as restoring a file that was deleted.

Using Windows 7 (this applies to win xp/vista as well)

  • right click on the desktop
  • select personalize (properties)
  • Click on Change desktop icons (select desktop, customize desktop)
  • uncheck Recycle bin and you're done

edit: updated with more detailed instructions for windows xp.

If you are aiming for a completely icon-free desktop, just right click the desktop, go to 'View', then un-select 'Show Desktop Icons'

To hide or show the Recycle Bin icon using Folder Options, follow these steps:

1.In Windows Explorer, in the Tools menu (or in the Control Panel), click Folder Options.

2.On the View tab, under Advanced Settings, do one of the following:

Clear the Show Recycle Bin icon on the desktop check box to remove the icon from your desktop.

Select the Show Recycle Bin icon on the desktop check box to show the icon on your desktop.

My Recycle Bin just disappeared for no reason. I tried Microsoft’s Fix-It and other utility programs to reinstate it. They all said the problem was fixed, but it wasn’t. I also followed the advice of some forum posts. I deleted it and rebooted it a number of times; Windows was supposed to auto recover it. Sometimes, it worked and an icon appeared tor a while. It didn’t function normally though.
While trying to work on the problem, I was working in the Desktop Properties. I noticed a lone icon – my Recycle Bin. See http://www.qfpost.com/file/d?g=Fb9D2B2DE for a screen print. I’m guessing the bin is in some sort of limbo state, I can’t get it back to my desktop. The one that appears on it is some kind of duplicate.
Does anyone know how I can get my original Recycle Bin back onto my desktop?
Regards…John
FYI, I’m using Windows XP, SP3.
